Citation clean-up and NAP consistency, done for you
Google cross-checks your name, address and phone against every other listing of your business it can find. When those listings disagree with each other, the profile you actually care about looks less certain. We find every version, correct the ones that are wrong and merge the ones that should never have existed.
What citation clean-up actually is
A citation is any mention of your business name, address and phone number on another website — a directory entry, a trade body listing, a map app, a data aggregator. Citation clean-up is the work of finding all of them, correcting what is wrong, merging duplicates and filling the gaps, so every source Google can check agrees with your Google Business Profile.
Signs your listings need this
Every one of these puts two different answers in front of Google about the same business.
You've moved premises
The old address is still live on directories nobody remembers signing up to — and several of those feed other directories, so it keeps coming back.
The phone number changed
An old number on a live listing is not a formatting quibble. It is a different business, as far as a machine cross-referencing you is concerned.
There are two of you on Maps
Duplicates from a previous owner, a franchise setup, a listing created by a supplier, or one made by accident during verification. They split the reviews as well as the signal.
Your name is written four ways
Ltd or Limited, ampersand or "and", the trading name on some listings and the registered name on others. Pick one and it stops being a question.
You took over an existing business
The previous owner's details are still everywhere, often including their phone number, which is still ringing somewhere.
You work from home or from a van
Your home address has been published in places you never put it. If you should be registered as a service-area business, that address is a liability rather than an asset.
What's included
The audit is the quick part. The chasing is what you are actually paying for.
A full listing audit
Every live listing we can find — the large UK directories, the data aggregators that feed them, trade-specific sites and the map and voice ecosystems — checked field by field against what your Google Business Profile says.
One canonical NAP record
We agree a single written version of your name, address and phone with you, punctuation included. Everything after that is measured against it, including the structured data on your own website.
Corrections submitted and chased
Wrong addresses, dead numbers, old trading names and broken website links corrected at source. Some directories take an edit instantly; others need a claim, a verification call or a PIN by post. Those get chased until they land.
Duplicates merged or removed
Two listings for one business split your reviews and confuse customers. We merge what can be merged and request removal for the rest, including duplicate Google Business Profiles left behind by a previous owner.
The listings you are missing
Added where they are worth having for your trade: the general UK directories, Bing Places and Apple Business Connect for the map and voice ecosystems, and the sites your specific industry is actually judged on.
A register you keep
Every listing, its URL, the login it sits behind and its current state, in one document that stays yours. If you ever leave us, you leave with it.
How the clean-up runs
The pace is set by the directories, not by us. This is what that looks like honestly.
Audit and map
We search your business the way a customer and a crawler would, and list everything that comes back with what each listing currently claims.
Agree the record
One name, one address format, one number, agreed in writing with you and matched to your Google Business Profile character for character.
Claim, correct, merge
Edits submitted, listings claimed where a claim is needed, duplicates merged or reported. Postal and phone verifications are started early, because they are the slow ones.
Re-check and hold
Aggregators repopulate old data and suggested edits creep back in. We re-check what landed, re-submit what did not, and keep watching for as long as you are with us.
What we won't do
Citation work is where the shortcuts are tempting, because they work briefly and then get the profile suspended.
These are part of the published policy we work to, alongside the rules on reviews.

Citation work is part of a plan, not a one-off project fee. It runs alongside the review and profile work rather than instead of it.
Proof that reviews come in — cheaply, and with no risk.

Questions we get asked
DefinitionWhat is a citation in local SEO?
Any mention of your business name, address and phone number on another website — a directory entry, a trade body listing, a map app, an aggregator record. Google uses them as corroboration: several independent sources saying the same thing about your business is a trust signal, and sources that contradict each other are not.
NAPWhat does NAP consistency mean?
Name, address and phone written the same way everywhere. "St" against "Street" will not sink you on its own; a superseded phone number, an old address or a different trading name on a live listing is a real contradiction, and those are the ones we fix first.
TimingHow long does citation clean-up take?
The audit takes days. The corrections take weeks, because the directories set the pace — some accept an edit immediately, others need a claim, a verification call or a PIN sent by post. We submit everything in the first month, then chase whatever has not landed at day 30 and monthly after that.
DIYCan I do this myself?
Yes, and the audit is the easy half. The part that takes time is claiming listings you did not create, proving ownership to a directory that still has your predecessor on file, and chasing aggregators that quietly repopulate the wrong data. That is the part you are paying us to sit through.
ImpactDo citations still matter in 2026?
Not as a volume play — hundreds of thin listings will do nothing for you. Consistency still matters, because a live listing contradicting your Google Business Profile is a contradiction Google can see. We treat citations as hygiene that supports everything else, not as a lever to pull on its own.
Home addressWhat if I work from home?
Then your address probably should not be published at all. Google supports service-area businesses that hide the address and declare the areas they cover instead. We set the profile up that way and work to get the address removed from the listings that have already picked it up.
